Vice-Chancellor

Prof.(Dr.) S. Surya Prakash

Prof. (Dr.) S. Surya Prakash, Vice Chancellor of the National Law Institute University, Bhopal (since June 2023), has over three decades of academic experience. He previously served as Vice Chancellor of DSNLU, Visakhapatnam, and as the Founder Vice Chancellor of MNLU, Aurangabad. A graduate of Acharya Nagarjuna University (B.L.), Andhra University (LL.M., First Class) and Ph.D. from Berhampur University, he has authored and edited several books including Bonded Labour and Social Justice, Turning Point: The Story of a Law Teacher, and Constitution and Composite Culture, alongside 35 research articles and numerous project reports. He is the founder editor of Indian Law Review and has represented India in the U.S. under the International Visitor Leadership Programme (2010). His areas of interest include Jurisprudence, Labour Law, ADR, International Arbitration, Health Law, and Culture & Law.

Dr. Debashri Sarkar

Dr. Debashri Sarkar, is a graduate of National Law Institute University (NLIU), Bhopal. After completing her graduation, she pursued her interest in human rights and gender studies while working as a Research and Advocacy Officer at the Lawyers Collective, New Delhi. She was the Primary investigator on the Project funded by the Mac Arthur Foundation on Sex Selective Abortions in India: A Critical Study of the PCPNDT Act. She further went on to pursue her LL.M from the Faculty of Law, University of Delhi and was the batch topper. Thereafter, she joined academia and was appointed as Assistant Professor at the Gujarat National Law University Gandhinagar in 2008, where she worked for almost three years. She bagged the UGC Junior Research Fellowship and Senior Research Fellowship and completed her Ph.D. from the University of Delhi. Her Doctoral research was on Assisted Reproductive Techniques with specific reference to Commercial Surrogacy: The Emerging Socio-Legal Jurisprudence.
